Ursula Kroeber Le Guin (1929-2018) was an American author whose work in science fiction and fantasy earned her recognition as one of the most important writers of the twentieth century. The daughter of anthropologist Alfred Kroeber and writer Theodora Kroeber, Le Guin grew up in an intellectually rich environment that fostered her lifelong interest in culture, language, and social structures. She published more than twenty novels, over a hundred short stories, and numerous volumes of poetry, essays, and translations over a career spanning more than five decades.
