Hannah Arendt
Hannah Arendt was born in Hannover, Germany, in 1906 and grew up in Konigsberg, the city of Kant. She studied philosophy with Martin Heidegger and Karl Jaspers, completing her doctorate on the concept of love in Saint Augustine. As a Jew in Nazi Germany, she was briefly arrested by the Gestapo in 1933, fled to Paris, and spent eight years as a stateless refugee before escaping to New York in 1941 via Lisbon.
