Sylvia Plath

Sylvia Plath (1932–1963) was an American poet and novelist whose fierce, incandescent body of work transformed confessional literature. A perfectionist from childhood—she published her first poem at age eight—she attended Smith College on scholarship, won a Fulbright to Cambridge, and married the English poet Ted Hughes.
