Kingsley Amis

Kingsley Amis was born in 1922 in Clapham, South London, the son of a clerk at the mustard manufacturer Colman's. He won a scholarship to the City of London School and then to St John's College, Oxford, where he formed a lasting friendship with Philip Larkin. After serving in the Royal Corps of Signals during World War II, he returned to Oxford, completed his degree, and took a lecturing post at the University College of Swansea—an experience that provided the raw material for Lucky Jim. This author hub collects 1 work in the Canon Compass ranking, led by Lucky Jim.
