Junot Díaz

Junot Díaz was born in 1968 in Villa Juana, a neighborhood in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and immigrated with his family to New Jersey at age six. He grew up in the working-class city of Parlin, attended Rutgers University, and earned his MFA from Cornell. His debut story collection, Drown, published in 1996, announced the arrival of a major new voice in American fiction with its raw, lyrical portraits of Dominican-American life in the barrios of New Jersey.
