Jeffrey Eugenides

Jeffrey Eugenides was born in 1960 in Detroit, Michigan, to a family of Greek and Irish descent. He grew up in Grosse Pointe, the suburban setting that would become central to his fiction, and studied English at Brown University before earning an MFA from Stanford. His first novel, The Virgin Suicides (1993), a haunting tale of five sisters in 1970s suburbia, was adapted into a celebrated film by Sofia Coppola and established him as a distinctive voice in American letters.
